Highlights from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Address to the Public in Diyarbakır*
I wholeheartedly salute Diyarbakır, the city of brotherhood. I also salute the other brotherly cities of Mecca, Madina, Jerusalem, Damascus, İstanbul and Arbil.
Molla Mustafa Barzani enjoyed the hospitality of his brethren’s country Turkey 81 years ago. Today his son, our distinguished friend Masoud Barzani is our guest in Diyarbakır. I salute you and our esteemed friends in the Northern Iraq Kurdistan Region.
We are brothers, the members of the same land and the same civilization. Although borders were drawn up by a ruler in this geography almost hundred years ago, there are no borders in our mutual affection. No borders can be drawn up over our common history, common civilization and common future.
Therefore we shall be marching towards future in confidence.  Turks and Kurds cannot be disunited from each other. We have declared that we would safeguard this brotherhood and common destiny. Therefore, we have terminated the policies of denial, rejection and assimilation. We are building a new country with the spirit of 23 April 1920. That is, we are building a new Turkey together with all ethic, religious and secterian elements. Just as Turks, Kurds, Arabs, Laz, Georgians, Circassians and Bosnians collaborated  in the Turkish Grand National Assembly of 1920 and waged a common war to establish the Republic, we are taking strides forward towards new Turkey with the same spirit of brotherhood.
There will no longer be any segregation, discord, hatred and disassociation in this land. Everybody is a first class citizen of this country. There can be no discrimination. Everyone has equal rights, whether they are poor or rich, whether they are from the east or the west.  For we have established this republic together and we shall build the future together.
As a result of the new formative process, young people are not dying any more. There are no more suffering and sorrow in the cities and the mountains.
However, there are those who are troubled with this brotherhood and quiet. Both at home and abroad, such circles are irritated by the consolidation of this brotherhood and the prospect of a stronger Turkey.
I ask all the people of Diyarbakır to support this formative process. Let there be no doubt, this process will flourish and it will be lasting. Do not forget that words are stronger than the guns and politics more effective than violence.
I am confident that the future will be much better. I am sure you will witness better days, with correction facilities being emptied and mountains deserted.
Diyarbakır is regarded the fifth Haramesh-Sharif of theIslamic world after Mecca, Madina, Jerusalem and Damascus. If Diyarbakır is peaceful, happy and prosperous, so will be Arbil and  Kamishli. And Turkey as well.
Within the framework of today’s ceremony, we have invested 740 million liras in Diyarbakır. When you include the projects in Bismil and Ergani, total investments for Diyarbakır will reach 880 million liras.
I hope all our deeds would contribute to the unity and peace in Diyarbakır and in the whole region. I would like to repeat my belief that the future will be much better than today.
