The 559th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul by Fatih the Conqueror was marked with a number of events held in the city yesterday. As part of ceremonies, tomb of Fatih the Conqueror was visited by a great many citizens, including Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Kadir Topbas and Fatih district's Mayor Mustafa Demir. Afterwards, the traditional Mehter band marched from the Beyazit Square to the Sultanahmet Square, which was also accompanied by great many Turkish people and foreign tourists. Sound and light performances were also held at the Golden Horn, the center of celebrations.
