According to the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that the Mideast Quartet consisting of the US, UN and Russia which has been established to solve the Palestinian issue was close to failing in bringing Israel and the Palestinians back to the negotiating table. Therefore Al-Maliki called on other countries such as Brazil, Turkey, China and India to join the mediation efforts in negotiations between Palestine and Israel. Al-Maliki indicated that the Palestinian Authority was planning to apply to the UN General Assembly as a nonmember state and thus make it easier to join other international bodies, including the International Court of Justice.
