Ankara could give up compet,t,on chapter over business concerns
Relations between Turkey and the European Union, which have been troubled due to political reasons, now face another hurdle based on the technical aspects of Ankara's membership talks. Turkey has been working hard for a year towards opening the competition chapter of its talks, but it may abandon its efforts over concerns that critical sectors such as automotive, space technologies, machines and chemistry could be hurt. Unless it reaches an agreement with the European Council on measures to address these concerns within a month, Ankara will reportedly give up opening the chapter.
