Antalya welcomes 50th edition of Altın Portakal Film Festival this week

The Altin Portakal (Golden Orange) International Film Festival in the southern Turkish city of Antalya unveils its 50th edition on Friday night with a gala ceremony in the city's Harrington Park Resort. The longest-running annual cinematic gathering in Turkey, the festival will run until Oct. 11, featuring films by masters of world cinema to Turkish classical movies. A total of 10 feature films, including Ramin Matin's sophomore feature "Kusursuzlar" (The Impeccables), will be competing for the grand prize in the national competition, the jury of which will be headed by veteran Turkish actress Turkan Soray, the "sultan of cinema." The international competition, with a judging panel presided over by Turkish director Yesim Ustaoglu, also features 10 titles, including Deniz Akçay's most recent effort "Koksuz" (Nobody's Home) -- the only film from Turkey in the competition. Organized by the Antalya Culture and Arts Foundation (AKSAV), the festival will host India as guest of honor, offering a selection of movies from the country. India is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Bollywood film industry. Festival tickets can be purchased from the Antalya Cultural Center (AKM) ticket kiosk.
