Turkey's Minister for EU Affairs and chief negotiator Egemen Bagis underlined that the resolution of Cyprus issue would mean the removal of the biggest obstacle in front of Turkey's EU process, saying, "Greek Cypriots should go and compromise with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). If the two sides agree on a solution, this will be OK for us." Bagis also called for a solution in the divided island based on political equality. "The only condition we seek is that an agreement should be based on political equality. Once we withdraw our troops from the island, we should not have to send them again. Political equality is the guarantee of this," he said. Turkey is also unsatisfied with political crisis in the TRNC and it has urged its solution as soon as possible, amid growing public discontent with the administration. "There is an ongoing crisis in the TRNC. We are dissatisfied with this and it is not something that can be explained rationally. I hope they will come to their senses," Bagis told a group of reporters yesterday in Istanbul.
