The current government wants Turkey to have a civilian constitution, said State Minister and Chief European Union talks Negotiator Egemen Bagis yesterday. Speaking to the Muslim Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (MUSIAD), he added: "Once our negotiations are over, Turkey might join the European Union, like Bulgaria and Malta, or we may face difficulties, like Britain, Spain, and Portugal." Alternately, he said, the Turkish people could also reject EU membership, like Norwegians did, even if Turkey is implementing EU rules.
