Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis yesterday attended a TV program at the time of sahur (the last meal eaten before the day's fasting begins during Ramadan) which was organized by religious vocational high school graduates from the Of Charity Foundation in Istanbul. Speaking at the program, Bagis said that the important thing for us was not about joining the EU, but reaching democratic rights, human rights, freedom of expression, clothing and appearance, as well as food health and hygiene,  and education, health and transportation possibilities above the EU standards.  Bagis added that once the process of membership talks with the EU ended, a referendum would be held to get the people's opinions about the issue and a decision on our EU membership would be made on the basis of referendum results.  Bagis also asked the people attending the sahur to pray for victims of the situation in Syria.
