Bakoyannis: "Fix Cyprus, then join US in the EU"
Greece is Turkey's most honest European partner when it comes to its European Union accession, according to a former Greek foreign minister and current leader of the Democratic Alliance Party. Athens strongly disagrees with Germany and France's opposition to Turkey's EU bid, Dora Bakoyannis said in an interview on Monday. "If Turkey solves the problem of Cyprus and completes the reform process, then it has the capacity to be a member of the EU," she said after attending a conference organized by the Turkish Women Entrepreneurs' Association (KAGIDER) in Istanbul. "What we need is a viable, concrete solution to the Cyprus problem based on a UN resolution," she added. "There is no possibility for the end of partition when 40,000 (Turkish) troops remain on the island. Besides, the fact that Cyprus is an EU member state is the best guarantee for the island's security."
