Belgian FM: "Turkey is on its way to the EU"

Turkey's European Union accession is like a car en route to a destination, not one stuck in a garage, said Steven Vanackere, the foreign minister of current European Union President Belgium, yesterday. Speaking to reporters in the wake of yesterday's EU foreign ministers' summit, Vanackere said that a delay in the opening of Turkey’s competition chapter isn't a setback, but rather a sign that the accession process is credible. On Jan. 1, Belgium will be succeeded as EU president by Hungary.
