The calls for cooperation in energy and industry have marked the 15th Eurasia Economy Summit which was attended by heads of state and government, ministers and religious leaders from 30 countries in Istanbul. Turkey’s EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis has said in his opening speech on behalf of the Turkish government that whoever tries to dominate the entire Eurasia alone would only cause a heart attack for the region, adding that Eurasia is drawing the attention of the entire world with its geography, young and dynamic population, and rising prosperity. "Whether you call Eurasia a chessboard, or the heart of the world, it has always been the center of power struggles," Bagis said pointing out that once the mentality of "whoever rules Eurasia controls the world" was common. "However, we see that conflict is on the desk of Eurasia rather than cooperation. I think it is good to say here, from the center of Eurasia, Istanbul, that no one can rule this region. Sharing the diversities of Eurasia, as well as struggling for peace and prosperity of humanity will put everyone in a better position," Bagis said. For his part, Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek said, "Eurasia which hosts great diversity of natural resources, especially energy resources, is our common life area. We should make use of the natural resources and richness offered by Eurasia."
