Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) yesterday criticized the bill aimed at penalizing the denial of Armenian genocide claims in France. Speaking at the Academic Council Meeting of December 2011 which was organized by the Marmara Group Foundation, Cavusoglu said, "This is one of the extravagancies displayed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to regain the support that he has already lost. Turkey is not a country to be used as a tool in election campaigns carried out by a country or people like Sarkozy." Cavusoglu expressed hopes that common sense would win, adding that otherwise its possible impacts will not be so nice.
