Speaking at the International Ombudsman Symposium held in Ankara yesterday, Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek complained about attitude of the EU to the European ombudsmen, saying, "We have had very serious complaints about Europe for the past 50 years." Stating that the organization that has claimed lives of more than 40,000 citizens in Turkey was established in 1984 and it was only in 2002 that the EU designated it as a "terrorist entity," Cicek asked, "What is the difference if I died in a chemical weapon attack or fire from a machine gun?" Cicek also criticized the EU for remaining silent to killing of almost 100,000 people, whereas the chemical weapons attack evoked reaction immediately within the Union.
