As part of an official visit to the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek yesterday held contacts at the Pakistani National Parliament, where he was received by his Pakistani counterpart Fehmida Mirza. Cicek also planted a tree in the Parliament’s garden, held a tete-a-tete meeting with Mirza and then proceeded to the Parliament’s library, where he signed the guest book prior to a joint press appearance with his counterpart. Speaking at the press conference, Cicek expressed pleasure at seeing a female politician heading the Pakistani parliament, and emphasized the close relationship between Pakistan and Turkey. Cicek also pointed out the importance of parliamentary-level cooperation between the two nations to the further flourishing of relations. Cicek also described Pakistan as his second home and invited Senate President Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari to Turkey. Cicek underlined that the bloodshed in Syria really made Turkey sorry, adding, "Every time we made efforts for Syria, there have been excuses. The current regime in Syria can no longer stay in power." Cicek also said that it was not possible to continue to rule by tyranny, and that Syrians needed to live in peace and as humans.
