The Council of Europe will send a representative to Turkey later this month to look into developments concerning freedom of expression, the CoE announced yesterday. Arriving in Turkey after the June 12 general elections, Ambassador Gerard Stoudmann will meet with representatives of both governmental and non-governmental institutions. Stoudmann will also meet with journalists who have been arrested or detained in recent years. Based on his observations, he will prepare a report on proposals concerning freedom of expression to be published this fall.
