Culture and arts grand awards presented by Gul

President Abdullah Gul on Wednesday attended the ceremony of the Culture and Tourism Ministry 2012 Culture and Arts Grand Awards at the Presidential Symphony Orchestra Building. The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc and Culture and Tourism Minister Omer Celik. Speaking at the ceremony, Gul said that Turkey has in recent years become very strong and stable, adding, "In such a country, one can expect that its cultural life is vivid and its artists create great things and they are doing this indeed in many areas such as cinema, sculpture and painting, literature and so on. A Turkish author was granted the Nobel Prize for the first time in our history and there are many other artists and men of literature who have won acclaimed awards all around the world." During the ceremony, Gul presented the prizes to Islam Secen, Prof. Dr. Fatma Cicek Derman, Salih Balakbabalar, As. Prof. Huseyin Oksuz, Alparslan Babaoglu and Cahide Keskiner. Gul also congratulated newly appointed Celik and wished him success.
