Davutoglu addresses Ukranian ambassadors
Addressing some 150 Ukrainian ambassadors serving in various parts of the world in Kiev on Tuesday as the main speechmaker upon the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart Kostyantyn Gryshchenkoi, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Ukraine has been able to maintain the spirit of Eurasia. "Kiev resembles Istanbul. You cannot understand the history of Eurasia without understanding Kiev. Those who cannot understand Istanbul cannot understand the history of the Balkans, the Middle East and Europe," Davutoglu said. Davutoglu added that certain intellectuals define Ukraine as a land of war between the east and west and describe Turkey as an indecisive country. "Why should we be a land of war between the east and west or be an indecisive country? This is our destiny. This is a gain for us," Davutoglu also said. Stating that one day Turkey will join the EU, Davutoglu said that a new era has also started in the Middle East. Reiterating that elections have been held in Libya, Tunis, Morocco and Egypt, Davutoglu said that he hoped Syria would also be involved in this list as well and that Ukraine shouldn’t consider itself away from the Middle East, because countries such as Turkey and Ukraine with multidirectional geography and history have great gains in a newly shaped international arena.
