Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and his Finnish counterpart Erkki Tumioja yesterday jointly hosted the ministerial-level meeting of “Mediation for Peace” at Türkevi, New York. Speaking at the joint press conference after the meeting, Davutoglu answered a question about Turkey’s role and perspective on the Israel-Palestine conflict and efforts aimed at mediation, saying that it’s impossible to mention all of Turkey’s opinions and efforts, but Israeli-Palestinian talks and Palestine’s application for full UN membership were discussed at a meeting organized by the International Peace Institute (IPI) in New York previous day. Davutoglu said that it was the right time to initiate comprehensive and result-oriented talks about the Israel-Palestine conflict and Palestinians’ right to establish a state recognized by the UN could not be denied. He added that Turkey fully supports Palestine’s application for full UN membership and believes that the UN has made a commitment about it as part of its resolution numbered 181 which was adopted in 1948.
