Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated yesterday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has lost his legitimacy with regard to ruling Syria following recent attacks. "If Syria turns into Lebanon or Iraq, this would be a disaster for the region," Davuoglu said. Speaking on the plane on his way to the Netherlands on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between Turkey and the Netherlands, Davutoglu gave strong messages regarding the foreign policy agenda, saying that they focus on diplomatic options in Syria. "Regarding Turkey's national security, all of the necessary preparations are made," Davutoglu said in response to a question whether there was any preparation for a resolution. "We consider taking some steps within the context of religious peace. We do not desire any situation which would cause Christians to suffer. I visited the supreme leaders last week. We talked with the leader of Assyrian Community about the risks which are likely to arise in Syria. We will not be involved in any discrimination in humanitarian issues regardless of their religious and ethnic basis. Assyrians in Syria and Turkey are relatives," Davutoglu said regarding to concerns over Christians in Arab geography.
