Speaking to reporters earlier yesterday prior to his departure for Pakistan to attend the D-8 summit, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu who has exerted great efforts for a truce between Israel and Hamas, said that ceasefire on which an agreement was reached the day before could not take effect due to Israel's acts. "We have seen this film before," Davutoglu said, stating that Israel has not observed the agreement.  Before the truce was announced between Hamas and Israel at early in the morning yesterday, Davutoglu made statements on developments which happened previous day. "The continuation of attacks even when we are in Gaza is an indication of Israel's recklessness," Davutoglu said, reiterating that he has shuttled back and forth between Damascus and Cairo during the attacks in 2008 and that Israel broke the agreement again. Davutoglu said that a text has been jointly prepared with Turkey's suggestion to ensure truce between Israel and Hamas, but Israel has not responded to the cease-fire proposal, and has not rejected that, either. "There is a text on which Hamas and Israel has reached agreement to a great extent. This situation makes us hopeful. Despite such an atmosphere, Israel's ongoing attacks indicate that Israel is taking some tactical steps rather than trying to reach an agreement through negotiations. The continuation of attacks even when we are in Gaza is an indication of Israel's recklessness. This is not an acceptable act," he said. Davutoglu noted that the parties largely agreed on the content of the cease-fire deal and this situation made the mediators hopeful that the fighting would be halted soon. Furthermore, Israel and the Hamas reached a cease-fire agreement at 9 p.m. yesterday to end the fiercest round of fighting in nearly four years, promising to halt attacks on each other and ease an Israeli blockade constricting the Gaza Strip.
