A delegation comprised of members of the U.S. House of Representatives visited a Syrian refugee camp near the border in the southern province of Kilis. Officials from the Turkish Foreign Ministry briefed the delegation, which was comprised of Rep. Rob Wittman, a Republican from Virginia, Rep. Ted Poe, a Republican from Texas and Rep. Hank Johnson, a Democrat from Georgia, on the living conditions of Syrian refugees. U.S. representatives paid a visit to the school at the Oncupinar camp and to workshops where Syrian women made handcrafted products. They also met with Syrians who were elected to administrative councils in elections organized Jan. 17 at the refugee camps. UN special envoy on refugees, American actress Angelina Jolie also visited the Oncupinar camp last September to bring attention to the worsening refugee crisis due to the 22-month-old conflict in Syria.
