Eiffel tower sparkles in red and white in honor of Gul
President Abdullah Gul will leave today for a three-day official visit to Paris, where he will also officially inaugurate the Turkish Season in France alongside his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy. Gul will receive special treatment in Paris, where Sarkozy will host him at a working luncheon at the Elysée Palace. Apart from Turkey's EU accession bid, the presidents will discuss a number of global and regional issues. In honor of Gul, the Eiffel Tower last night was lit up in red and white, the colors of the Turkish flag, which will festoon it for five days. In related news, as part of the Turkish Season, Paris Mayor Bertrand Delance presented Nobel laureate novelist Orhan Pamuk with La Medaille Grand Vermeil de la Ville de Paris, a symbolic medal. Famous Turkish photographer Ara Guler was earlier presented with this medal as part of the season.
