Speaking at a fast-breaking dinner (iftar) themed "Humanity Hand in Hand with Love" organized by Turkish Business Women Association (TIKAD) at Emirgan, Istanbul, Prime Minister's wife Emine Erdogan said, "Although we try to keep our country in peace and security, away from all these pain and sadness, we sometimes see that an ember falls into our home and feel the pain, sorrow and grief in the depths of our hearts." Prominent women figures from business and art circles such as TIKAD Chairwoman Nilufer Bulut, Turkey's Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis' wife Beyhan Bagis, Semahat Arsel, Vuslat Dogan Sabanci, Betul Mardin, Demet Sabanci, Prof. Dr. Nese Kavak and Ajda Pekkan came together at the iftar dinner. Underlining the sufferings from Somalia to Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Myanmar, Iraq and Afghanistan, said that there were many reasons for Turkey to be interested in this region. Stating that she has personally witnessed human tragedies in these countries during her visits, Mrs. Erdogan stated that those who turn a blind eye and disregard these events were selfish people who also close their hearts and consciousness to humanity. "Who remains muted to murder of children, young people, women and innocent people today will lose the right to talk about rights, law, justice and humanity tomorrow," she said.
