Erdogan seeks apology from Armenia over remarks urging reclamation of Turkish territory
Prime Minister Erdogan yesterday pressed for an apology from Armenian President Sargsyan for his remarks telling schoolchildren it is their task to reclaim "Western Armenia" from Turkey. "Such statements by the Armenian president don't reflect an expression or approach suitable to a president," Erdogan told reporters on a visit to Azerbaijan, alongside Azeri President Ilham Aliyev. "Encouraging hatred and enmity in future generations ill befits statesmanship. What Sargsyan is doing here is provocation. It works to pass on hatred and enmity to his young people." He added, "What kind of future will Armenian youth have? Down this road, likely a dark one. They will look at events through dark glasses." On Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azeri region under Armenian occupation, Erdogan said that Armenian young people "should definitely know that there is an occupation and that the identity of the occupiers is clear. And it's not just us saying this, but also the United Nations. This situation needs to be resolved."
