Ergun pledges awards for Turkish scientists
Science, Industry and Technology Minister Nihat Ergun held a meeting with economy reporters in Ankara, saying that an intelligence satellite to be developed by engineers from the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Turkey (TUBITAK) would be launched in December. Stating that TUBITAK has reached a considerably important point with regard to spatial studies, Ergun said that 12 new satellites would be prepared in the next eight years to be used in various fields, including agricultural production, mineral explorations, climate changes and city planning. Ergun added that they would also work on issues of waste and recycling in the upcoming period. Ergun also recalled the Turkish sportspeople who have won medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games, saying that Turkish prize-winning scientists in such fields as mathematics and physics would be awarded from now on as well.
