During her visit to the Middle East, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton yesterday said that they were working on restarting indirect negotiations between Israel and Syria. "We're trying to find ways with Turkey to restart the peace process," she said. "We are aware of Turkey's important role in indirect negotiations." She said that she wanted to take up the issue with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as soon as she returns from her trip. For his part, Syrian Foreign Minister Velid Muallim said, "We trust Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. However, we haven't received an official notice from Turkey on the negotiation issue."
