EU to Turkey: Come and tell us about Syria
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu who is engaged with an intense diplomacy for Syria has been invited to the EU foreign ministers meeting to be held on February 27. Davutoglu will voice his views on Syria and convene Turkey's position at first hand. As the EU was willing to hear the latest developments in Syria from Turkey, Davutoglu was invited to EU's Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brussels last month, but he decided not to attend the meeting since it coincided with French Senate's vote on a bill criminalizing denial of Armenian allegations. Ankara has not replied the invitation of EU yet. If Davutoglu attends the meeting, relations between Turkey and the EU will be the hot topic on the agenda, and he will give strong messages regarding Turkey's membership negotiations with EU. Davutoglu will remind pacta sund servanda, pointing out that difficulties raised to prevent Turkey's membership are unacceptable. Regional developments, particularly those in Syria and Iran, and actions to be taken in the framework of latest situation in crisis in Syria and humanitarian aid will also be discussed. Nuclear negotiations between Iran and the West are planned to be touched upon.
