Turkey hopes to become the second-largest olive and olive oil producer after Spain, said Mustafa Tan, head of the National Olive and Olive Oil Council (UZZK), yesterday. The council has established close monitoring of quality standards of olives and olive oil sold in supermarkets. "The quality has to be sustained for us to become a world leader," said Tan. The council is drawing up a list of olive and olive oil producers meeting the standards. The aim is to boost consumer awareness of the quality of olive products, Tan said, adding, "The UZZK logo will soon be seen on packages of olive products."
