A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry yesterday indicated that death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi constituted a historical turning point, as a result of which a new era has began in Libya. The statement said that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has met with Libya National Transitional Council Chairman Mustafa Abdulcelil and expressed our gladness to see that the legitimate efforts made by Libyans for the sake of freedom, justice and democracy have resulted in decisive victory. "Abdulcelil has firstly extended his condolences due to terrorist attacks which have occurred in our country and expressed his gratitude to Turkish people for extending support to Libyans. Turkey expects Gaddafi's relatives and members of the overthrown regime to be brought to justice as soon as possible in order to prevent more bloodshed in Libya. It is considered that the fate of Muammar Gaddafi, as well as the autocratic regime dating back to more than forty years, constitutes a sad lesson which should be taken into consideration in all aspects in terms of the movements aimed at a change and democratic transformation occurring in the region. We certainly believe that the upcoming political process in Libya will be completed without being possessed by personal ambitions and feelings of grudge and revenge, as part of an inclusive understanding which embraces all sections in society, in unity and solidarity. Turkey will continue to stand in solidarity with friendly and brother Libyans and provide them with all sorts of support with all its possibilities from now on, as it has done in the past," added the statement.
