Founding President of TRNC Denktas remembered

The founding President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Rauf Denktas was remembered today on his first anniversary of the death with official ceremony. TRNC President Dervis Eroglu signed the special ledger and said Denktas was an uncommon resistance fighter and a statesman in his speech. Eroglu who pointed out that he was the prime minister who worked longest with Denktas stated that there was always respect and love between them and although being rivals sometimes they had never lost their respect and love in their relationship. Denktas's wife Aydın Denktas, his son Serdar Denktas, Turkey's Ambassador of Nicosia Halil Ibrahim Akca and Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Commander Lieutenant General Ismail Serdar Savas were also present in the ceremony. Denktas was part of TRNC history from 1950 to 2005 and helped create the nation state of TRNC.
