Gauck visits Martyrs Mosque in Berlin

German President Joachim Gauck, accompanied by his partner Daniela Schadt and Prime Minister of the Federal State of Berlin Klaus Wowereit, on Monday visited the Martyrs Mosque (Sehitlik Camii) in Berlin. The delegation was received by Chairman of the Muslim association at the Martyrs Mosque in Berlin Ender Cetin, Religion Affairs Attaché of the Turkish Consulate Berlin Hasan Hayri Yasar and members of the board of directors of the mosque, and informed by imams Dursun Atak and Murat Sahinarslan. As part of his visit, Gauck was also presented a painting as a gift, showing the calligraphy of his name. As part of his visit, Gauck said that the unifying and integrative elements should be underlined, rather than putting forth the differences between people from different religions and ethnicities living in Germany. Speaking for his part, Cetin said that the visit paid by Gauck to the Martyrs Mosque was the greatest gift given to Muslims living in Germany.
