General Staff announces establishment of new unit

The General Staff announced that it established the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) Cyber Defense Command in 2012 with a view to protect its data from cyber attacks. A statement announced on the web site of the General Staff said that the TSK expands its warfare capabilities in cyber space along with its other operation areas; land, naval, air and aerospace. “The TSK Cyber Defense Command was established in 2012 to prevent cyber threats and to provide a powerful central cyber defense capability endowed with advanced cyber protection alert and reaction systems. The Cyber Defense Command Unit conducts its activities in coordination with the Transportation, Maritime and Communication Ministry, as well as the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) and other public institutions. Furthermore, it performs its tasks in coordination with NATO in both national and international missions. The statement added that within the Cyber Defense Command, cyber protection is carried out in all the cyber systems used by the TSK, continuous response to cyber attacks is available for 7/24, consciousness-raising and training activities are organized and regular cyber security audits and tests are carried out by the TSK.
