NATO approved the deployment of the Patriot missiles after a request from Turkey, amid grave concerns that Syria could use chemical weapons. Early this month German parliament has agreed to deploy Patriot missiles along the Turkish-Syria border to help Turkish troops confront attacks by missiles or aircraft from neighboring Syria. The German Patriot batteries which will be under the command of NATO have departed for Turkey on Monday and are expected to arrive by early February along with nearly 170 troops.
