Gul attends International IIE Conference inauguration ceremony
President Abdullah Gul attended the inauguration ceremony of the International Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) Conference held at the Grand Cevahir Hotel and Congress Center in Istanbul. The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, Rector of Abdullah Gul University Professor Ihsan Sabuncuoglu and industrial engineers. Speaking at the conference, Gul said that the world changes fast, information and informatics need updating in a short time and thinking fast and implementing projects accordingly are of crucial importance in today's world. Stating that industrial engineers are the ones who ensure the interdisciplinary coordination, who can look at all of the relevant disciplines from a different and embracing perspective and who can evaluate the issues at the macro level, Gul referred to the huge developments Turkey has achieved in the last decade. "Turkey has achieved great developments through radical reforms in all areas including political, legal and economic ones. It has consolidated its resilience against the possible shock waves that could come, whether from within or outside of the country," Gul noted, adding that Turkey is resolute to continue the reform process it has been carrying out in the last decade. Stating that Turkey is achieving the Copenhagen Criteria and establishing all the necessary infrastructures of the free market economy, Gul indicated that Turkey is also conducting the accession talks with the EU, all of which he said are the very dynamics of Turkey's success. After the talks, Gul and Babacan were granted the Certificate of Lifetime Membership for Industrial Engineering.
