President Abdullah Gul yesterday expressed hope that the terrorist PKK's so-called cease-fire holds, in the wake of a weekend terrorist attack in Istanbul that no group has claimed responsibility for. Gul made the remarks in the southern province of Osmaniye, where he visited Governor Celalettin Cerrah and attended the opening ceremony of Osmaniye's Korkut Ata University. "I hope the cease-fire will hold," he said in a speech. "Problems can be solved maturely through conversation and discussion. Terrorism gets us nowhere. I want it to be well understood that terrorism can in no way be tolerated." In related news, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) leader Selahattin Demirtas yesterday condemned the Sunday attack. "Violent methods should be rejected no matter their aim," he told his BDP parliamentary group.
