Turkey will emerge from the current economic crisis rocking the world even stronger, said President Abdullah Gul yesterday. "We shouldn't be so worried about the economic crisis," he told a reception in Istanbul marking the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Banks Association (TBB). "By acting conscientiously and with cooperation, I believe we will get through this period easily." Stating that Turkey's banks have been developing alongside its economy, he said, "We're proud of that progress." Also speaking at the reception, TBB head Ersin Ozince commented on what he called "unprecedented" world economic turmoil, saying, "When the crisis will end and how it will affect the economy are currently unpredictable." Touching on the importance of preserving trust and capital, he added that a strong economy is closely connected to a healthy and flourishing financial sector.
