President Abdullah Gul yesterday received Youth and Sports Minister Suat Kilic and his accompanying delegation of the youth who participated in the "30th Week of the Youth" at Cankaya Presidential Palace. Stressing the importance of knowing well one's history, culture, arts and other legacies, Gul said a generation unaware of its history ends up taking a wrong path in this way or another and emphasized the significance of peace and security all around the world, pointing to the great meaning of Ataturk's motto: ‘Peace at home peace in the world'. Gul added that a good administration besides the economic development is always needed to make people happy, noting that those who are under oppression and those who cannot tell freely whatever they have in their minds are not happy at all. "To achieve the level of the modern civilizations, a country must implement the best democratic standards and allow people to express freely whatever they think. In this way, peace can easily be achieved as well," Gul said, adding, "You are the future. We all will make greater efforts to make our future even brighter. All we wish, as the leaders of the country, is to leave a better country to you." Gul also called on the youth to do their best to be successful in their classes, reiterating that the government is displaying tireless efforts to raise and educate them in the best way and celebrated the youth's day, hoping for a brighter future for them as well. Among the delegation were 84 teenagers, 3 of whom were from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
