President Abdullah Gul yesterday hosted a luncheon for governors from Turkey's 81 provinces at the Cankaya Presidential Palace. Speaking to the gathering, Gul said consolidating Turkey's unity and solidarity depends on the country's governors, urging them to ensure the better coordination of public services in their jurisdictions. Stating that Turkey has long fought terrorism without sacrificing democracy, human rights, or the rule of law, Gul said, "Our governors have a great role to play in this campaign to achieve a top-quality democracy, and the complete elimination of terrorism." Serving all of Turkey without discrimination and helping the needy carry great importance now, as Turkey's push to completely eliminate terrorism has reached a critical phase, Gul said. "Such an approach will reinforce our citizens' sense of belonging to the Republic of Turkey, thus cementing our unity and solidarity," he added.
