Culture and Tourism Minister Ertugrul Gunay attended the opening day of the 46th International Tourism Bourse (ITB) in Berlin on March 7, signing a strategic partnership agreement with Germany's major tourism company in order to provide transportation services for Chinese citizens for trips to Turkey. Gunay held a press conference after the opening ceremony to highlight the new developments in Turkey's tourism sector. Speaking at the press conference, Gunay said Turkey hosted over 31 million tourists last year, 4.8 million of whom were Germans. "But our major goal will be to increase per capita income, rather than to increase the number of visitors. We want sustainable tourism, and thus we need to protect our environment and green areas," Gunay said.
