In response to the storming of its embassy in Tehran the day before by Iranian protestors, British Foreign Minister William Hague said that Britain has closed its embassy, withdrawn its embassy staff from Iran and that Iranian diplomats in London would be deported in 48 hours. Stating that additional sanctions to be imposed on Iran will be discussed during today's meeting of EU foreign ministers, Hague said that it did not mean diplomatic ties between the two countries had been entirely cut off. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu made phone calls the day before in order to ease tensions. Davutoglu called firstly British Foreign Minister William Hague and then his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi and finally made a phone conversation with Hague again. As a result, Hague said that he was pleased with the immediate and useful intervention made by Davutoglu. Hague also expressed gladness over condemnation messages from the UN Security Council, the US, EU, Germany, Poland, Russia, China and many other countries against Iran.
