Industrial production up 8.3 pct in April
Industrial production grew 8.3 percent in April year-on-year, the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) announced yesterday. According to April industrial production index figures, Turkey produced 8.9 percent more industrial goods in April over the same month in 2010, but 3.8 percent less than this March. When seasonally adjusted, national industrial production grew 8.4 percent year-on-year in April, and fell 0.6 percent month-on-month. The highest increase in industrial production was seen in capital goods production, up 21.7 percent year-on-year, followed by durable consumer goods (up 12.1 percent), energy (8.7 percent), intermediate goods (6 percent) and non-durable goods (2.8 percent). Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun said Turkey's controlled increase in industrial production is a positive development in light of developments in international and domestic markets. Ergun added that industrial production in Turkey has been on the upswing for over two years now, since March 2009.
