International Itri year to be celebrated in Istanbul

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of renewed master of Turkish classical music Buhurizade Mustafa Itri's death, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has declared 2012 the "International Itri Year," as part of which the International Itri Symposium will be held on November 23-24 in Istanbul. The symposium, designed and organized by Fatih Sultan Mehmed Foundation University’s Alliance of Civilizations Institute under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey and sponsored by Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, will be held with contributions of the Central Bank, the Higher Institution of Ataturk Culture, Language and History, Bahcesehir University, Yunus Emre Institute and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The opening speech of the event will be made by President Abdullah Gul.
