In an interview with the Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Researches (ORSAM), Iranian analyst Farrokh Negahdar said that Turkey has become a more prominent country than Iran in the region thanks to the changes it has gone through and that Iran should take Turkey as an example in order to become influential in the region. Stating that the Iranian people consider the Turkey model as successful, Negahdar said, "Now extremenesses aren't supported so much in the region. Everybody in Iran sees that a new political understanding was developed in Turkey thanks to the Justice and Development (AK) Party." Nagehdar added that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been enthusiastically welcomed by the people in Cairo, Tunis and Tripoli, whereas Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad has started to lose influence in those cities.
