Ireland: Even one chapter is enough to accelerate Turkey's EU process
Ireland's Foreign Minister and Eamon Gilmore and European Affairs Minister Lucinda Creighton have said during a meeting held on the occasion of Ireland's takeover of EU presidency that opening even one chapter will accelerate Turkey's EU membership process. Underlining that they had a great cooperation atmosphere with EU Minister Egemen Bagis, Creighton said that they emphasized Turkey's EU bid during their talks with Paris in December. "We stand by our promise to open one chapter at least. We are in the first weeks of our presidency. It is hard to say what will happen in advance, but I can say that we get positive signals," Creighton said. Ireland's Foreign Minister has "careful optimism". Gilmore said reiterated Ireland's full support for Turkey's EU process. "Our stance on Turkey should be in a way to reach a conclusion. We do not want to make commitments which we cannot achieve. We, as Ireland, will do our best to open one chapter at least; however as you know everything is not in our power," Gilmore said.
