Israeli Deputy PM: "Turkey is a super power"
Israel needs to come to terms with Turkey's superpower status in the Middle East, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz said during a recent speech at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. "We should have a strategic relationship with Turkey like we had in the past," Mofaz added. Mofaz underlined the importance of mending ties between Israel and Turkey, defining it as "necessary for the strategic goals of Israel and for the strategic goals of Turkey." Stating that Turkish Chief of General Staff was his best friend when he served as Israel's military chief, Mofaz added, "Leaders from both sides should meet and forget about the discords of the past. I believe it is going to happen in the months to come. I cannot say now how it’s going to take place and when, but it’s a necessity for the strategic interests of both Israel and Turkey".
