Weary of waiting in front of the European Union's door, Turkey is searching for a new identity for itself in the international arena, and can do so thanks to its strong economy, Italian business daily Il Sole 24 Ore said in a recent article. Stressing that Turkey has started to set its course on its own, the piece, called "Sultan Returning," said, "Turkey now eyes becoming a giant regional power rather than a bridge between Europe and Asia." To achieve this goal through a "neo-Ottoman" movement, Turkey's Justice and Development (AK) Party government is also supported by Turks living abroad, it added. EU member countries both welcome and are concerned by this return of the "Ottomans," it added.
