A joint statement has been issued following the Turkey-Spain Intergovernmental Summit which was held in Madrid on Tuesday. The statement said that Turkey and Spain strongly condemn the Syrian government for its human rights violations and oppressing its own people in a bloody and cruel way. "Spain shares Turkey's concerns along its border with Syria, and calls on Syrian officials to respect territorial integrity of neighboring countries, while assuring Turkey to count on solidarity of all countries," the statement said.  Within the context of statement, parties also expressed hope that the negotiation process between Turkey and the EU would regain momentum in 2013.
