The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC) is set to celebrate the 28th anniversary of the country's establishment on Tuesday with simultaneous events to be held in Nicosia and Ankara. However the Founding President of the KKTC, Rauf Denktas is not going to be able to participate to the celebrations for the first time due to his health condition. The KKTC is going to celebrate its Republic Day in simultaneous events to be held in Ankara and Nicosia, 28 years after Turkish efforts, including a military intervention after an Athens-backed military coup halted Greek attempts to unify the island with Greece and enabled the establishment of a sovereign Turkish Cypriot state on the island. The Ankara part of the celebrations organized by the KKTC embassy is set to kick off with a visit to Anitkabir, where the KKTC Ambassador Mustafa Lakadamyali will be signing a memorial book in memory of Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic.
