Miami fair spotlights Istanbul maps

A book presenting 500 years of maps of Istanbul will be featured in the Miami International Map Fair on January 31. The book, "Istanbul Haritaları 1422-1922," written by art historian Ayse Yetiskin Kubilay with the support of Topkapı Museum Director Professor Ilber Ortayli, features 100 maps chosen from 580 documents by Nick Adjemoglu, a former Istanbul resident living in Greece. It includes the first map of the Turkish metropolis, dated 1422, hidden beauties of the city and texts by travelers, in addition to maps of Istanbul from five centuries. Original maps will also be on display at the Rahmi Koc Museum through February14.
