A special grant of 250,000 Turkish Liras has been allocated for minority newspapers from the institution in charge of official state print announcements and formal advertising for the year 2011. The allocation was announced amid expectations that official support would come in the form of a share for minority newspapers of official bulletins and announcements that the Press Bulletin Authority, or BİK, regularly pay publications to print. The funds will be distributed among six newspapers. Weekly papers will receive 35,000 liras and daily papers 45,000 liras. A change in the code that regulates official bulletin publications has to be made, Yasar Durukan, a communications expert at BİK, said. He also said minority papers did not meet the criteria for official announcements. Durukan also said that the code will be changed and will soon be ready for 2012.
